چکیده

Our proficiency in integrating imaging techniques that illustrate both the morphologic and physiologic characteristics of the brain is paramount and is a currently evolving strategy for daily clinical practice at some academic institutions. This combination of information gained from diffusion tensor imaging and several MR imaging techniques that depict the physiologic behavior of the brain, including functional MR imaging, spectroscopy, and cerebral vascular imaging, promotes the exciting prospect of understanding functional and morphologic network aberrations in the clinical presentation of many neurologic disorders.

Neurological Evaluation and Diffusion-Weighted MRI Assessment of Patients with Transient Ischemic Attacks

Background: The risk of stroke after a transient ischemic attack (TIA) is high. Appropriately directed therapies may reduce this risk. However, sensitive means of detecting the presence of transient neuronal ischemia are lacking. Objective: To analyze the incidence of ischemic lesions detected by using diffusion-weighted MR imaging in patients suffering from transient ischemic attacks (TIA), an...

Clinical experience with diffusion-weighted MR in patients with acute stroke.

PURPOSE Our purpose was to evaluate the clinical efficacy, sensitivity, and specificity of echo-planar diffusion-weighted MR imaging in patients with acute infarction. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 194 cases of acute ischemic stroke diagnosed clinically within 24 hours of onset and studied with echo-planar diffusion-weighted MR imaging. Examinations were considered to be positive for in...

Quantitative diffusion-weighted MR imaging in transient ischemic attacks.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The risk of stroke after a transient ischemic attack (TIA) is high. Appropriately directed therapies may reduce this risk. However, sensitive means of detecting the presence of subtle neuronal ischemia are lacking. We investigated the potential use of quantitative diffusion-weighted (DW) MR imaging in the detection of deficits produced by transient cerebral ischemia. ME...

Diffusion-weighted MR imaging in the acute phase of transient ischemic attacks.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Radiologic assessment of acute transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) has been handicapped by the low sensitivity of CT and conventional MR imaging for acute small-vessel infarction and the difficulty in differentiating between acute and chronic lesions by use of these methods. Our purpose was to evaluate the incidence of TIA-related infarction by using diffusion-weighted MR i...

Focal parenchymal lesions in transient ischemic attacks: correlation of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Twenty-two patients with the clinical diagnosis of transient ischemic attacks were prospectively evaluated by computed tomography (CT) and proton magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Nineteen patients also underwent cerebral angiography. The MRI studies were performed with a prototype super-conductive magnet using a 0.6 Tesla or a 1.5 Tesla magnetic field. Two pulse sequence techniques were used r...
